The reason for this is simple, the more vacuum required, the more powerful the engine will become. The more powerful an engine becomes, the greater torque it can produce. Torque is what makes cars move forward.
As a result, the carburetor is a critical component of the engine. Without a proper functioning carburetor, the engine would not perform at its optimum potential.
How Stromberg Carburetors work
There are different types of carburetors. The Stromberg-Carlson is one of them. It works by providing the right amount of fuel to an engine based on the amount of air flowing into the engine.
Stromberg Carburetors work by mixing air with fuel. As the air passes through the carburetor, the needle inside the carburetor rises, and it pushes the needle attached to the main jet down. This is how the mixture of air and fuel is measured and controlled.
When you start the engine, you can hear a click. This happens when the needle inside the carburetor gets close to the end of its travel. As the fuel starts to mix with the air, the mixture comes out of the main jet.
This mixture is what the engine needs. Carburetors are very important because they regulate the amount of fuel that the engine receives. This helps to control the power of the engine and keep it at the optimum temperature.
How to Clean a Stromberg Carburetor

Step 3: Remove the throttle body. Your throttle body should also be removed. Start with the left side of the throttle body and remove the three bolts that secure it to the carburetor. Once the bolts are removed, remove the throttle body from the carburetor.
Step 4: Remove the Venturi. You should now be able to access the Venturi of your carburetor. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the Venturi. Once you’ve removed the screws, you can remove the Venturi.
Step 5: Remove the air filter. Now that you’ve removed the carburetor, it’s time to remove the air filter. The air filter is usually located behind the carburetor, but there are different designs. To remove the air filter, simply remove the nut that secures the air filter to the carburetor.
Step 6: Remove the main jet. Now that you’ve removed the air filter, you can remove the main jet. In order to remove the main jet, you need to unscrew the two nuts that are attached to the main jet. Once you’ve removed the two nuts, the main jet should come out easily.
Step 7: Remove the air bleeder. In order to clean your carburetor, it’s a good idea to remove the air bleeder. To remove the air bleeder, simply remove the two nuts that secure the air bleeder to the carb
Adjusting the Stromberg Carburetors

Tuning the CD, CDS and CD2S
There are three adjustments for the Stromberg Carburettors. You can adjust the CD, CDS and CD 2S Carburettors if you want to change the fuel mixture of your engine. To do this, you have to remove the screw of the screwdriver.
If you are adjusting the CD or CDS Carburettor, you have to move the screw to the left to make the throttle wide open. On the other hand, if you are adjusting the CD 2S Carburettor, you have to move the screw to the right to narrow the throttle.
This helps you to adjust the engine’s fuel mixture. You will know when you adjust the CD, CDS and CD 2SCarburettors correctly, because the Carburettor will no longer leak gas.
After you finish adjusting the CD, CDS and CD 2S Carburettors, you should put the screw back into the screwdriver again. You can adjust the mixture as you want.
centralising the jet
You can adjust the jet in your car’s carburetor in many different ways. First of all, you will need to look inside your vehicle’s carburetor and see what you can do. It’s okay to ask someone for help when you have problems.
Second, you will need to loosen the top nut of the carburetor so that you can remove the screws that hold it together.

Stromberg Manual vs. Electronic Fuel Injection

Stromberg manual: Uses a float and spring system to open the throttle valve as a function of the amount of fuel entering the engine.
Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI): The computer controls the amount of fuel entering the engine as a function of the throttle position, the engine speed, and other factors.
How To Test a Stromberg Carburetor
There are a few things you’ll need to do to test it out, so let’s take a look at what you’ll need to do to make sure it’s good to go.
First up, make sure the carburetor is still sealed inside the original case. In other words, make sure that it isn’t leaking any fluids and that it isn’t cracked in any way.
To test the choke position, you’ll want to set the float needle to the top or halfway between the top and bottom.
Now that you’ve got the choke in place, you’ll want to pull the throttle all the way back to the stop. This should bring the carburetor needle up to the top. If it doesn’t, move the needle to the top and then the bottom, checking for leaks in each direction.
Once you feel comfortable that the choke works, and there are no leaks, you’re ready to test the fuel mixture. Set the float to the middle, open the choke fully, and pull the throttle all the way to the stop.
While you’re pulling the throttle back, make sure the needle stays where it is. If it moves up and down, you have a bad mixture.
You’ll want to repeat this step with the needle on the bottom of the range, and then the one on the top.

How to Add Additional Stromberg Features
As a carburetor specialist, we’ve had the chance to add additional features to our Stromberg carburetors. To help you out, we’ve decided to take a closer look at how to do this.
In this tutorial, we’ll be focusing on adding three additional features:
• A second choke knob
• A second float needle
• An additional fuel regulator
The first step to adding these features to your Stromberg carburetor is to remove the factory set screws from the carburetor. There should be four screw holes on the top of the carburetor body. These screws hold the factory set screws in place.
Once the screws are removed, you’ll notice that the float tube is attached to the carburetor using a pair of machine screws. These are the same screws used to attach the float tube to the float bowl, and we’ll be replacing them when we install our custom choke knob and float needle.
Our float needle and choke knob will be added using two machine screws (8mm x ½”), and there should be one hole located between the main carburetor screws and the float tube screw.
When we’re finished, we should have two screws holding the float tube to the carburetor, one to hold the float tube in place, and one to hold the float in place.
When installing the float tube, make sure to not overtighten the screw. Once installed, our new float needle will slide right into the float tube. Our new choke knob should be tightened to the maximum provided by the manufacturer.
